Haunted Houses in Indiana…

Haunted Houses in Bloomington, Indiana

While Bloomington, IN has many Halloween festivals and plenty of festive fun, there is one notable haunted house to visit: The Barn of Terror, a haunted barn located south of town. This favorite fright manor is open every Friday & Saturday in October after dark. If you're searching for not-so-scary haunted houses, this isn't it. Don't believe us? Peek their haunted house reviews on their Facebook page. Hot tip: They have a great site FAQ section to help visitors plan a trip (visit website here).

Of note according to the IU Archives, this news story claims the Porticos house is known as the most haunted house on campus, and home to strange things like ghost children and voices. No word on any events open to the general public but keep your eyes peeled.

For those who seek one of the most haunted attractions in Monroe County, nothing brings in the scares more than the infamous Stepp Cemetery. This ghostly locale - often featured in ghost tours and a favorite among ghost hunters of the Hoosier state - is a rural cemetery located in the Morgan-Monroe State Forest, and believed to be a most haunted place in the zip code for spotting ghosts dating back to the Civil War era.

And we'd like to send an honorable mention to another local area must: The Bakers Junction Haunted Train. It looks like there's been some strain between the city and a family member of the attraction (which you can read more on here), but at the time of publishing, their Chief Haunt Enthusiast was looking forward to another year of Autumn activities for visitors.

Haunted Houses in Evansville, Indiana

When it comes to the eerie charm of haunted houses in Indiana, the city of Evansville is rumored to be a paranormal hotspot in Southern Indiana. Among the chilling locations, the Old Courthouse Catacombs is a must-visit for thrill-seekers during the Halloween season. Located on Main Street in downtown Evansville, the Olde Courthouse Catacombs is actually a double feature haunt with two scary attractions onsite: The Catacombs of Doom and the House of Lecter Evansville, where they've "joined forces with Lecter's frightening body snatchers" according to their website. For the best bargain, buy your tickets online for only $25.

For those who really want a scare factor, the Evansville Nightmare Factory is a local legend. The original building dates back to the 1940s, and the skeleton of an old factory is the perfect backdrop for an Indiana haunted house thanks to several unexplained occurrences over the years. They do offer lights-on walk throughs - check the website for details.

Last, don't miss Dead Birds Production, another double haunt with over 12 acres of 12 acres of haunted walk throughs and other outdoor scare zones.

Haunted Houses in Indianapolis, Indiana

For all the popular cities in Indiana with haunted houses, Indianapolis is definitely home to the most. Rather than giving you paragraphs of info on them all, here's a list of real haunts in the Indy area:

And while not in Indianapolis, we'd be remiss not to mention two musts in the state of Indiana to visit this time of year: Indy Scream Park (open Friday, Saturday & Sundays thru September, then daily in October), and the Indiana Fear Farm with its infamous hayride and haunted barn. You don't want to be left behind either in the middle of the night.

Haunted Houses in Kokomo, Indiana

There's nothing like haunted fun in small towns, but first a couple notes:

  1. While Kokomo, IN has long been the home of the Edge of Insanity, it's final year of Fall fun wrapped in 2023. At this time there are no plans to reopen but stay tuned to the Kokomo Visitors Bureau for any updates. EoI was known as the most haunted house in Howard County - open on Friday & Saturday during the spooky season -

  2. Sadly the local legend Davies House also closed in 2024, and is not expected to reopen. Found north of downtown Kokomo, it was known for its paranormal activity, and offered the occasional movie nights open to the general public.

Because we don't want to leave Kokomo, IN visitors without some haunted attractions fun, we did discover one location that may be worth a visit: Seiberling Mansion - located a half mile from the downtown Kokomo center on Sycamore Street - is said to have strong paranormal activity. Reports claim spotting full body apparitions, and sightings of a woman in a rocking chair on an upper floor.

(If this haunted fun doesn't excite you, may we recommend a mini road trip to Conner Prairie of Fishers for the Headless Horseman Festival? Complete with corn mazes, hay rides, and other spectacular thrills, it's an easy drive from Kokomo!)

Haunted Houses in Muncie, Indiana

In the city of Muncie, there's one haunted house to put on your list: Step into the spine-tingling world of the Scarevania Haunted House where live acts and eerie ambiance combine in the perfect mix to make even the sound of your blood run cold. This creepy haunt in the heart of Delaware County shares few details on their website, but here's what we know from past visitors: Prepare to spot their own carnivale cabaret stage, where bizarre scenes unfold and terrifying characters like the (possible) presence of a psychotic clown lurk in the shadows. Navigate the twisted corridors and prepare yourself for the Room of Terror, where nightmares come to life and fear becomes palpable.
