Haunted attractions in Fort Wayne Indiana (put these on your list!)
Fall is here, and with it comes the Halloween season. While many of us get our Fall kicks with corn mazes and a haunted hay ride, we know there are some thrill seekers out there searching for a more haunting experience (and srsly, kudos to you - this author gets wayyyy nervous at even haunted stage shows!). If you're close to Fort Wayne, Indiana, one of the best ways to get into the spooky spirit is by checking out some of the nearby haunted attractions. From creepy asylums to a haunted hotel, there’s fun for everyone who loves a good scare in northern Indiana.
But first a mini disclaimer because we love ya:
Haunted attractions and haunted houses are best for thrill seekers and those who love the adrenaline rush of being scared. These attractions are designed to provide a suspenseful and frightening experience that can be enjoyed by adults and teenagers alike. Typically, these environments are not recommended for young children, as the sights and sounds may be too intense or overwhelming. A group of teens (brave ones of course!) would be okay at most of these fun-filled haunted houses and attractions but definitely do a little research before they go.
Here's a list of haunted attractions in Fort Wayne, Indiana:
1. Fort Wayne Haunted Castle and Black Forest
One of the most popular haunted attractions in Fort Wayne is the Fort Wayne Haunted Castle and Black Forest. It offers two experiences (a bit of a double feature haunt!) - the Haunted House and the Black Forest. In the Haunted Castle, you'll find a two-story building that includes lots of haunted vignettes, classic horror movie characters with a long history of terrifying viewers, and two slides. The Black Forest leads you on a chilling walk through the woods alongside Beckett’s Run Creek… ghost hunters beware.
2. Sleepy Hollow Hayride - good for families
For those looking for a classic Halloween experience, Sleepy Hollow Hayride is the perfect choice. You’ll climb aboard a wagon and travel through spooky fields, a haunted trail, and forests while being chased by monsters and ghouls.
Bonus: This attraction is great for families, as it’s not as intense as some of the other ones on our list but still holds a place as one of northeast Indiana's favorite haunt winners.
3. Soultakers Acres
Welcome to Soultakers Acres, an immersive haunted attraction located in Warsaw, Indiana. Prepare yourself for a bone-chilling experience as you journey through this eerie landscape, where acres of haunt await you and the souls of the condemned roam free. 4. Lincoln Bank Tower
If you’re looking for something truly unique, check out the Lincoln Bank Tower, located on Berry Street in downtown Fort Wayne. This historic landmark building - an almost 100-year old structure in a stunning Art Deco style! - is rumored to be haunted, and during the Halloween season, you can take a guided tour of the tower’s spookier areas. You’ll learn about the building’s history and ghostly past, including the belief that every floor is said to have its own ghost. After walking thru a room of terror or two, you'll understand why this is considered one of Fort Wayne's most haunted places.
5. Indy Scream Park
Finally - for those willing to venture a little further from Fort Wayne - there’s the famed Indy Scream Park, aka the ultimate destination for thrill seekers looking to experience spooky and strange things. Situated in Anderson, Indiana, this sprawling haunted theme park offers a range of bone-chilling attractions from a horrifyingly haunted corn maze and haunted houses to terrifying trails and frightful shows. Get ready to face your darkest fears as you navigate through twisted corridors and encounter strange creatures (primarily played by live actors - how cool is that?) lurking around every corner. Whether you're a fan of creepy clowns or eerie ghost towns, Indy Scream Park guarantees an unforgettable and adrenaline-pumping experience that will satisfy your craving for thrills and strange things and is somewhat of a local legend in Indiana.
Bonus: Unlike many local haunted attractions, Indy Scream Park isn't just open weekends, but has plenty of weeknight hours as well.
There are plenty of haunted houses in Fort Wayne, Indiana too:
1. Hysterium Haunted Asylum
First on our list is an experience that takes place in an abandoned mental health facility. With its intense design and horrifying actors, Hysterium is thought to be the best haunted house locally, and not for the faint of heart. Be prepared to navigate through dark hallways, explore rooms filled with shocks and jumps, and come face-to-face with disturbing inmates (and maybe a scary head nurse or two!).
2. Green Center Haunted School House
For those seeking something different, the Green Center Haunted School House is located north of Churubusco, and offers a unique experience in an actual abandoned school building. As you wander through the creepy corridors, you'll encounter terrifying scenes and actors dedicated to providing an immersive frightful experience. You thought urban legends of abandoned schoolhouses were scary? Wait until you experience the actual thing at this indoor attraction.
3. Columbia City Haunted Jail
If you don't mind a short drive, be sure to check out the Columbia City Haunted Jail, located about 20 minutes outside of Fort Wayne. This spooky attraction is a old jail turned haunted house that has long been considered one of the scariest haunted house attractions in the area. As you navigate through the cells and corridors, you'll come across terrifying inmates and guards from the past, and the setting is definitely one ghost stories are made of. Plus the building resembles a haunted 1920's stone mansion that looks like it should be located at the top of a hill in a horror movie. Enter at your own risk.
