7 tips to make your morning routine easier
It happens every day, and yet, for many families, getting out of the house in the morning presents a challenge all year long. Are you looking for ways to ease that morning rush? Get ready to turn that morning mess into success with these great morning hacks.
Tips for easing the morning routine:
1. Bed Time
A good morning routine starts with a great bedtime routine. Ensuring your kiddos are getting enough sleep for their age increases their attention span, which helps them focus on getting out the door. An appropriate bedtime is a parent win too, allowing you the time to reset and focus on you after a long day.
2. Prep is Best
Thinking of ways to prepare the night before will give you extra time back in the morning. Can lunch be packed the night before? What about picking out the next day’s outfit ahead of time? One less thing to do in the morning can save the entire day ahead.
3. Chant it Out
One of the best ways to remember steps for tasks is with a song. Make up a fun and easy chant that is simple to repeat for those independent tasks your youngsters can do on their own each morning. While they sing away those tasks, you can enjoy asking less questions about what’s been done so far.
4. Set it or Regret it
When everything has a place, the likelihood of items being lost during those crucial final minutes in the morning decreases. Create spaces for those must have items like backpacks, library books, coats, and keys so you can get through the morning stress free.
5. Give Visuals
While we may never get those Renaissance music videos (please Beyoncé!), that doesn’t have to be the case for your family. Set a displayed timer for tasks that need to be completed in a set amount of time. Seeing how much time remains for those to-do lists items can help younger children use their time appropriately.
6. Take 5
Who among us doesn’t start the morning with a little time for themselves? It may be a quick peek at your favorite social media group (hello theCityMoms!), a scroll through the morning headlines, or some meditation. If we as adults pick a preferred interest to start the morning off right, then our young ones may need the same.
Ten minutes of Lego time is better than a ten minute melt down. Giving children time in the morning to do something they like can go a long way towards creating a relaxing atmosphere and making those early mornings less of a battle.
7. Take Time to Reflect
Your family is a team, and it will take all of you to get out the door smoothly. Debrief and share openly about what is going well, and what still needs improvement. Giving your kids the chance to contribute with ideas and share opinions makes them stakeholders in the success of your morning routine.
