Retire the diaper bag: New, small bags we love

You hear about a lot of the big baby milestones. Think “first steps” and “sleeping through the night.” But, let’s chat about underrated baby milestones. Like, the day a baby can sit nicely on your hip– that is a great day! Or, how about the day that bottles are done? No more parts and pieces drying on the counter– Amazing!

One of our favorite days is the day you can leave the house without packing a huge diaper bag loaded down with snacks and all the “leaving home with small humans” essentials. All you need to get out of the house is just you, your kids, and maybe a wallet, keys, and phone.

If you are deep in the diaper bag years, this may feel like a fantasy. And, truthfully, when the day comes it does kind of feel like it. But, sooner rather than later you will find yourself there. So, let's celebrate the milestone and equip you with a great small bag when it is finally time to retire the big diaper bag!

Here are small bags we are loving:

Look, this Ma is hands-free with a crossbody bag

You can’t go wrong with a classic crossbody bag. We love this chic black bag with a removable crossbody strap, turning it into a simple yet stylish handbag in a moment.

This elongated straw bag capitalizes on the trendy Spring and Summer texture, has a snap closure to keep belongings secure, and has an adjustable strap so transitioning to a shoulder bag can be done to change up the look.

For a super casual crossbody look, try this slouchy bag that even comes with two straps! (And, if you want to play with straps, Target is showing a bunch this spring!)

If you want to go a little more designer with a crossbody bag, Clare V. is a brand you may start seeing a lot of. The bags are made in LA and they have collab’d with great causes like Christy Turlington’s Every Mother Counts and Everytown for Gun Safety.

Buckle in with belt bags

Super popular belt bags are not going anywhere this season and we will sing the praises of the reimagined “fanny pack” all day. Functional, simple, and stylish? Yes, please!

We love this casual denim belt bag for its size and ability to be worn with just about anything.

If you are looking for pockets, this is the belt bag for you. And, both of these earn extra points with us for their cute patterned strap and great colors.

If you need something that feels more like a hybrid, look no further than this Free People bag that holds the essentials and gives you an effortless look for everything from a day at the park to a night out at a concert.

Keep calm and carry a handbag

Nothing says you have entered a new, small bag era of life than being able to reach for a shoulder or -gasp- handbag. We love this Target shoulder bag that could so easily become an everyday staple, but if you are looking for something a little more fresh for spring and summer this tulip handbag by Lauren Conrad is darling (and can totally be a crossbody, too!).

Channeling the same pastels, but elevating a bit to this classic Tory Burch Bag gives you a designer brand option.

And, speaking of brands we love: Coach is back and better than ever! This shoulder bag converts to a wristlet in a snap easily taking you from the pool to date night… and 2005!

The idea of a new, smaller bag may seem so simple– and even a little superficial. But, honor and celebrate every milestone. You might find that this one makes you feel lighter, more at ease, and even more like who you were before you were everything to them.
