8 must-have money-saving apps for busy moms

Managing motherhood comes with tons of tasks, and with inflation and a looming recession, we could all use help to save time and money.

Streamline your life with these 8 money-saving apps that help save extra cash and regain time for you and the fam.

money saving tips

1. Trim

Who doesn’t want to save money on subscriptions? Once you create a free account and link to your digital subscriptions, Trim automatically negotiates discounts for cable, internet, and phone plans. You can ask them to analyze your recurring subscriptions and cancel unwanted ones, too. No more navigating confusing websites or waiting on hold to cancel or get a few dollars back!

2. Flashfood

Food prices have been no joke recently, but Flashfood helps users save 50% or more on items close to expiration. Sign up for a free account, search nearby stores, and find money-saving meals you can make tonight. One CityMoms member recently created a Charcuterie sampler for five friends for less than 20 bucks through discounts at her local Meijer store. Can’t use the items in the next few days? Grab them anyway and freeze them immediately to make your savings last!

3. Acorns

Finding time to plan for the future can be tricky—there just aren’t enough minutes in the day! That’s why we love Acorns so much! This investment app allows you to invest spare change automatically while earning bonus investments and more. With its easy-to-use interface and expert-built portfolios, Acorns makes investing a breeze, even for us busy moms on the go.

4. Waze

Waze has been around for a while, so you may have heard about its handy alerts that warn you about accidents, speed traps, or road hazards, but did you know it can also help you save money on gas? Waze shows the cheapest gas stations near your route, so your fill-up is fast and fiscally friendly.

5. SnipSnap

If you’re like us, you’ve got a stash of coupons in your purse or car that never make it to the cash register. SnipSnap saves the day! Take pictures of your coupons and find coupons others have shared; at checkout, just pull out your phone and scan for instant savings.

6. Target Circle

We all love Target, but now there’s even more to love with Target Circle! This program offers exclusive perks and personalized deals on all our favorite brands! You’ll get automatic deals at checkout and a 5% instant discount for members—perfect for moms looking to save on their everyday purchases.

7. GoodRx

Did you know that prescription drug costs can vary significantly between pharmacies? With the GoodRx app, you can search for your family’s prescriptions by location and find the cheapest prices near you. One CityMoms member saves hundreds of dollars a year getting her family’s prescriptions at Costco.

(Bonus: You don’t have to be a member to use their pharmacy!)

8. Honey

Save money while shopping online with this free web browser extension. It automatically searches for the best prices and coupons to get the most bang for your buck without endlessly scrolling for savings.

BONUS! Reduce your monthly bills with these tips:

  • Replace all your light bulbs with LED bulbs. But call your electric company first-some will supply LED bulbs for free!

  • Always wash laundry on the cold setting. Your clothes will be less wrinkled, stains still come out, and it gives your hot water heater (and energy bill) a break.

  • Unplug electronics when not in use to conserve energy and reduce your electric bill.

  • Keep the lid on when cooking on the stovetop. Trapping the heat makes cooking more efficient, reducing energy use.

  • Turn the thermostat down one degree. You may not even notice the temperature difference, but you will see the savings on your energy bills.

Whether you are saving for a summer vacation or want to fatten your family’s emergency fund, use these services and apps to take a few stressors off your to-do list and start saving today.
