Here are 5 tips for your family’s summer travel from Indianapolis airport:

1. Decompress in a sensory-friendly space.

Traveling and anxiety often go hand in hand. So before you jet off to your next destination, take a moment to decompress in one of the sensory-friendly rooms located in each terminal concourse. These rooms are designed to offer a quiet, calming space for anyone feeling a little overwhelmed.

Bonus: If you stop by the information desk, you can grab a sensory bag filled with goodies like a blanket, headphones, and a few fidget toys to make your journey even more comfortable. Your senses (and sanity!) will thank you.

2. Keep the kids busy while waiting for your flight.

Layovers and delays can make even the most patient traveler fidget. At IND, stretch your legs (and let little ones let off steam) while pursuing the many art installations curated and presented by Indianapolis locals. Watch planes taxi and take off on the large windowed runway between the terminals, check out a real live Indy car, and hit the ice cream machine for a treat and a show!

3. Pump, nurse, or feed in peace.

Babies and toddlers are much happier travelers when they have full bellies, and IND has two private rooms available for anyone needing a private, but cozy space. The rooms are equipped with comfortable chairs, a table, plenty of electrical outlets for breast pumps, and a baby seat to keep the wiggly ones contained. (And they’re adding busy boards soon!)

Plus, you can lock and unlock the rooms from the inside for that extra peace of mind.

4. Don’t stress about forgotten supplies.

We’ve all spent a frenzied morning packing for vacation, only to arrive at the airport and realize we’ve forgotten the essentials. IND now offers free pads and tampons in all women’s restrooms, free diapers and wipes, adult changing products, and changing rooms to accommodate your needs. And you can always check with Guest Services (call 317-487-7243) or visit the Information Desk for assistance!

5. Even something for the furry family members.

If you like to travel with your fur babies, IND has dedicated pet relief spaces - complete with a fire hydrant! There are also waste bags available as well as a pop-up sprinkler system. Learn more about these areas and where to find them.

Big kudos to the Indianapolis International airport for their commitment to making family travel a little less chaotic. With less to worry about, we mamas can focus on what really matters: making some incredible summer memories!
