Did you go through your teen years with raging acne? Or maybe your skin was dry and flaky? Either way, the people who didn't have great teenage skin  {which honestly, was most of us!} constantly worried about what others thought. Did they see the real you? Or did they just see your skin issues? Even before the days of social media, we still wanted to believe we could be the girl who walked into the spring dance with no makeup on and get Jake Ryan to look our way {I'm not the only one still swooning during Sixteen Candles, right?}. Sadly, this was never me - and still is not.

Don't get me wrong ladies, I love myself. {and I still rarely wear make-up}. However, my extremely dry skin has caused self-esteem issues my entire life. I have that lovely skin that can get so dry, it feels as if I put an alligator suit on each morning. I get out of the shower and immediately feel pain from the tightness across my face. So, naturally, as an adult with a limited budget, I have tried every drug store remedy out there. Guess what happened? Rashes, blisters, inflamed skin, and all kinds of fun things that I swear are only supposed to happen to teens. Let's face it, as we get older, we need to take care of that skin. And don't we all deserve a little skin TLC?

So now, I am on a journey to find a solution that can hydrate my skin, prevent inflammation from scents or other irritants, and not completely blow my budget.

Enter, ClarityMD, and my new best friend Genevieve. I was nervous walking into this doctor's office to get a facial. I had not truly considered the idea that a medspa would be a better option for me, than a traditional spa or individual aesthetician. I checked in, and like a mom was prepared with my new client paperwork already done, and walked back to a private room with Genevieve. Man, is that staff amazing! She took photos of my skin using a special machine that helps her see all of the fun damage I have done to it over the years. After the photo shoot, we sat down to chat about my skin concerns and goals. She involved me the entire time, explaining everything she was doing, and even talked about some other treatments that she might recommend for someone else but chose a different customized plan for me after hearing about my lifestyle and needs.

Genevieve gave me a customized facial to rehydrate and calm my irritable skin. At first, I was unsure what to expect, but she talked me through the entire process and I never experienced any pain or discomfort. If you haven't had the pleasure of a facial, let me walk you through it. They gave me a super comfy wrap to wear and I got cozy on the facial bed {a little longer and this CityMom could have happily napped there}. After that, I relaxed while Genevieve did her thing.

  • First she cleansed my face of any remaining makeup, oil, or dirt

  • Next she applied a light exfoliant {this was not painful at all}

  • Then she applied an enzyme treatment to help with my redness

  • Followed by a facial steam {so relaxing!} and hyaluronic acid to give me a hydration boost

  • Finally I entered pure bliss with moisturizer and a face and shoulder massage

The initial results lasted 36 hours, but I could see a marked improvement in my skin for at least 10 days after my visit. Genieve recommended I have regular facials {every 4-6 weeks is best} to help my skin stay fresh and healthy. ClarityMD also has skincare products available for purchase and your aesthetician will help you determine what is best for your skin needs. I know what you're thinking- sales pressure! I felt no obligation to purchase expensive spa products, and Genevieve even recommended some products I could find at the drug store that would be perfect for my skin needs.
