Read on, reader!

It is snowing. Who can even think about going to a pool? Well, maybe it’s all you are thinking about, daydreaming about warm summer days and a bright summer sun. But then you check the temperature, cry just a little when you see the numbers dropping into the single digits, and you bundle up and push those tantalizing summer thoughts out of your head. I do.

BUT we'd be remiss to think that winter isn’t a time to remember water safety. In fact, it’s probably a fantastic time to keep up that education and keep your kiddos in swim lessons. Still not convinced?

Here are some great reasons why water safety is an important year-round affair:

Water, Water, Everywhere

Sure, you may not be headed to your neighborhood pool, but have you noticed the retention pond, fountain, or yes, even the bathtub? We are surrounded by water, and even a small amount of standing water can pose a threat to the kiddos. Don’t fret. Just be aware and keep talking about how to stay safe around all types of water.

Never Too Early

Like most things in life, learning is done best when it is started early and repeated often. Goldfish Swim School offers lessons for babies as young as young as four months. While your infant might not master the backstroke quite yet, she will develop a familiarity with water and learn critical survival skills.

Escape to the Tropics

Midwestern winters can feel eternal. Goldfish Swim School offers a temporary escape from that winter weather with a warm and inviting pool and waiting area. It’s so easy to get stir-crazy with little ones, but swimming makes an excellent winter activity. Your kids will burn some energy, and you get to relax and daydream about the tropical decor. Even better if you have babies, jump in that warm water right alongside your baby for the full experience! Goldfish Swim School incorporates water safety into every lesson in every age group. While winter might lend itself naturally to a break from a lot of water activities, consider it your “off season” and keep building skills that will keep your kiddos safe when it’s finally summer (202 days, but who’s counting, amiright?)

Megan Bohrer

Megan, a transplant to the Midwest, still got excited by the first snow flurries of the season. Although her husband’s job as a private school administrator brought them to the area, Megan recently moved ‘home’ to Atlanta. And damn, we miss her.

When she isn’t chasing after her three children or putting herself through nursing school, Megan enjoys drinking craft beer, photography, playing soccer, and fantasizing about all of the Pinterest projects she will one day complete.
