theCityMoms’ Digital Editor :: Tiffany Shull in the Momlight

There’s a fresh new face around theCityMoms, though she’s not a stranger to the scene since joining us as a first-time mama. Help us welcome Tiffany Shull, Digital Editor for theCityMoms!

Let’s talk about wearing a lot of hats (and wearing them well!) - Tiffany Shull is adding one more, having just stepped into the role of Digital Editor for theCityMoms early this month. Mom to daughter Remy {soon-to-be 3} and wife to Mike, Tiffany is an Indy transplant from Chicago. Drawn by the big city feel without the long commutes and high cost of living, she has settled into Midtown and loves the older homes, unique architecture, mature trees, and walkability of the area.

Tiffany gets the CityMom vibe, sharing that within this community her introverted self found a space where she could step in and just observe at first.

She shares that she appreciated the lack of pressure to engage and didn’t feel “like I immediately had to go to an event or join a playgroup or do all of these things…That was really nice for me, especially as a first-time mom who had a rough first 6 months.” Ultimately she shares that feelings of uncertainty gave way to the realization that she does have things in common with moms by whom she may have initially felt a little intimidated, and she encourages others to put themselves out there by joining theCityMoms community. We’re so glad you found a home here, Tiffany!

With an impressive background in writing including work on her own yet-to-be-published novels, editing a few per year for other authors, and recently establishing the Heartland Society of Women Writers alongside two colleagues, Tiffany seems to be a perfect fit to jump in as theCityMoms’ new Digital Editor. In this role, Tiffany is responsible for coming up with and handing out writing assignments, working through the editing process, and getting well-timed content out to you, our CityMoms. It was a nudge from a friend that led her to consider this role. Tiffany shares, “As women we tend to undervalue all of our hats, right? We have so many things that we do in a day that are just natural to us that we don’t consider them valuable or transferable skills. And so it took a friend to say, ‘No, this is exactly what you do and you would be great at it’ for me to apply.”

We’re sure Tiffany will shine in this role, describing herself as meticulous when it comes to details and scheduling. She explains, “I am a merciless editor, but I do so in a way that encourages growth and learning on the part of the people that I’m editing for.” She understands that sharing your writing can be deeply personal and values a kind approach while walking through this process alongside writers.

Tiffany is excited about the opportunity to connect with even more CityMoms as we look to really emphasize the mom’s voice this year {your voice}, with plans to invite members of our community to write blog posts for us about topics where they are passionate.

She also looks forward to releasing more “listicles,” short pieces that can be digested quickly, saved for later, or easily shared with friends. From the mom perspective, Tiffany explains, “We’re tired, we’re busy, we have a six-minute attention span. I’m not reading a novel right now; I’m reading this list of five things.” By meeting readers where they are, we hope to see theCityMoms become an even better resource to you, mamas.

Tiffany casts a clear vision within her Digital Editor role, and as a personal goal for 2022 shares her plans to return to novel writing and to release some of her ideas that have been marinating. Like many of us, Tiffany considers how to find that healthy balance between work and family life, sharing that being a work-from-home parent when her husband isn’t can be a challenge. “He gets home and is trying to shift from work mode to home mode, and I have been home in this house with this child all day. Please take her while I lock myself in the closet.” We see you, Tiffany!

As for her interests, it’s no surprise that Tiffany loves to read all of the things. She says, “I drink coffee, I’m tired, and I read books.” Can’t we ALL relate in some way? Tiffany also loves to play and laugh with Remy, marveling at the ways her daughter experiences new parts of the world {totally obsessed with hide and seek right now; totally bad at it like all toddlers}. Take it from me, Tiffany is great for adult conversation too, especially if you have a long book list to talk through!
