Here's your tailgate packing list - go team!

1. Portable Grill

True story: Every party needs some delish grilled food. And a portable grill that's convenient to transport and easy to set up is definitely the way to go. Look for a propane grill that offers enough space to cook for your group and is fuel-efficient. And if you opt for the fave charcoal grills, keep in mind that you'll need to plan for charcoal to cool and proper disposal before heading into the gam. (Need inspo? We chatted tailgating recipes on Lifestyle Live). Here are two of our faves:

2. All the Seating

We polled our CityMoms members and learned the #1 thing they forget to pack for tailgates is extra seating so let's not let you make that same mistake. You'll want foldable but also comfortable options for your next tailgate. Sideline parents - meaning those who spend a lot of time on the sidelines of a football game, soccer, baseball, etc., probably already have a few of these recommended items at home but if not, here are some of our most-loved options:

3. Folding Table(s)

Bring 'em. No doubt you have a portable table or two couple tucked in your garage somewhere, but this is one of those tailgate items you don't want to leave behind. In a pinch because you forgot to bring one or multiple? Open the hatch of your trunk for a ready-made table! Just make sure to toss a tablecloth or tarp down to avoid getting barbecue sauce or other spills on your upholstery. Here are some options for you:

4. Tailgate Games

Kickstart the competitive spirit with your party with those stand-by tailgate classics like corn hole (or bean bags or just "bags" in some Midwestern spots, ha!), ladder golf, or beer pong. They definitely keep your guests entertained, but also are the perfect distraction if you have kids at the tailgate too. We love that there are a few options out there that don't require a big, hefty setup either! Check these out:

5. The Perfect Cooler

We know a tailgate grill is a must, but so is a durable, well-stocked cooler. And while your old toss-ice-in-and-go is great, there are so many amazing upgrades now available in the cooler department including ones with a separated drink tanks, dry racks to keep items like condiments cool but out of ice, tap dispensers, and a built-in bottle opener. We're obsessed with Brumate's 55qt, all-terrain BruTank cooler (and would love to gift you 15% off any Brumate purchase when you use our affiliate links here!).

6. First Aid Kit

We're always hoping for a pain-free party, but it's always wise to be prepared for any mishap, especially if kids are involved. Here are a few options we love for that all-comprehensive first aid kit that hey, is just good practice to have in your car anyway, right?

7. Other Essential Supplies

Look, there are definitely a few additional items you shouldn't forget. Here's another mini tailgating essentials list within a list you'll want to check off:

  • Trash bags for easy cleanup

  • Paper towels for spills - a paper towel holder helps ensure these don't go missing!

  • Wet wipes for quick cleaning

  • Insect repellent

  • Portable Bluetooth speaker

  • Portable generator

  • Slow cookers to keep dips/chili/other recipes warm

  • Jug of water for drinking or cleaning

  • Hand warmers

  • Outdoor blanket

  • Jumper cables - you'd be surprised how often you may need these at your tailgate setup, especially as temps drop!

Should you bring a pop-up canopy tent to your next tailgate? Answer: Yes.

When choosing great pop-up tents for tailgating, here are some important features to look for:

  1. Size and Space: Consider the size of the pop-up tent and the number of people it can comfortably accommodate. No one wants to be crammed under an awning made for two, so look for tents with a spacious interior that can house your group comfortably.

  2. Ease of Set-Up: Tailgating often involves quick setup and takedown, so opt for pop-up tents that are easy to assemble and dismantle. Look for features like instant setup mechanisms for convenience.

  3. Durability and Weather Resistance: We've all been there - a gust of wind whips thru and takes your pop-up tent with it. So make sure your tent is made of durable materials that can withstand various weather conditions, specifically one that has a sturdy frame, reinforced stitching, and weather-resistant fabric to keep you protected from the elements. Included ground stakes or weights to enhance stability are a definite plus.

  4. Portability and Compactness: A great tailgate tent should be easy to transport to and from the game. You'll want one that's lightweight and comes with a convenient, easy carrying case or bag. Hot tip: Consider the folded size and weight to ensure it fits comfortably in your vehicle.

  5. Ventilation: Look for tents with adequate ventilation to keep the interior cool, especially during hot game days. Features like mesh windows or vents can help improve airflow inside the tent.

  6. Added Features: Some tents come with extra features like built-in LED lights, built-in storage pockets, or sidewalls for added privacy and protection. So cool.

  7. Brand Reviews: Always read the user reviews to gauge the overall quality - other tailgater feedback is a must!

Hopefully this tailgate packing list was some help to your next game day experience. Happy tailgating!
