Appreciate the Arts
Columbus Museum of Art

Free: Sundays (there is a fee to park in the museum’s lot)
This museum hosts outstanding collections from American and European modern and contemporary pieces to folk art. The Wonder Room, currently in its fourth iteration, is a hands-on, family-friendly gallery that encourages young visitors to touch and interact with the art.

Short North Arts District

Wexner Center for the Arts
Location: 1871 N High St.
Free: Gallery admission during regular hours
Located on the Ohio State University campus, the Wexner Center is an incubator for contemporary art and cutting-edge performances.
This center offers all versions of contemporary art forms from sculpture, music, performing, and film to name just a few. Take a tour that is customized to you and your crew’s interests. They are educator-led with inspiration-type discussions for contemporary culture and art.
Play in the Parks (and Gardens)
Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens
Location: 152 Howlett Hall 2021, Fyffe Road part of the Ohio State University campus
Free: Open year-round from dawn to dusk
This center boasts over 30 acres of gardens to explore. The area is divided into three gardens.
The Learning Garden is a great place to inspire creativity in your gardens and provide an educational experience. In the Lane Avenue gardens, you can stroll and reflect while enjoying a number of various plantings. The Arboretum North is a great place to spend the day. It has a picnic area, a fishing area, and over 1,000 native trees in Ohio.

Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
Location: 1777 E. Broad Street
Free: Conservatory and Gardens: First Sunday of each month, for residents of Franklin County and the City of Columbus (with valid ID). Community Garden Campus: Daily
The four-acre “living classroom and idea center” known as the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company Community Garden Campus is available for free exploration from dawn to dusk daily. It's the perfect place to let children exercise their curiosity as they explore different types of plants and appreciate art melded with nature.
While the outdoor gardens are always free, there is a fee for the indoor exhibits and conservatory. This horticultural and educational institution showcases exotic plant species, special exhibitions, and stunning installations. Their outdoor gardens offer an oasis of calm with a wide array of plant life, beautiful water features, and intricately designed glass sculptures.
Grange Insurance Audubon Center
Location: 505 W Whittier St.
Free: Daily
If you love nature and birds, or just like new adventures, this Audubon Center is perfect for your next family outing. The center offers family adventure backpacks that are nature-themed to help inspire you as you explore.
Commune in Community Spaces
Columbus Blue Jackets
Location: Nationwide Arena, 200 W. Nationwide Blvd
Free: First-time participants, ages 5 to 9
If your kiddo is a hockey fan, consider signing up for a Columbus Blue Jackets “Get Out & Learn” (or GOAL) program. This initiative allows boys and girls to try hockey for free in a 30-minute clinic at Nationwide Arena, home to the Blue Jackets. 2023 dates have passed, but sign up here to be notified for the next round!
Columbus Commons
Location: 160 South High Street
Free: Daily
Encapsulating seven acres of green space in the heart of downtown Columbus, Columbus Commons is more than just a park. It features a hand-carved carousel, well-maintained gardens, and an expansive lawn perfect for family picnics.
The highlight for kids, undoubtedly, is the large playground outfitted with modern play structures. Throughout summer, the park hosts free concerts featuring a diverse mix of musical genres—making it a perfect place for both entertainment and relaxation.
Easton Town Center & Polaris Fashion Place
Location: 160 Easton Town Center
Free: Varies
Easton and Polaris are two major shopping centers with extensive offerings beyond shopping. Both venues offer regular free events, which span yoga, public concerts, movie nights, and kids' crafts.
Easton Town Center, particularly with its blend of open-air and enclosed spaces, comes alive during holiday seasons with free live music, a spectacular Christmas tree, and Santa for the kids. Polaris Fashion Place, aside from shopping, provides free children's activities, making for a pleasant outing.
Not Free, but Still a Great Deal
Ohio History Center and Ohio Village
Location: 800 E 17th Ave
Admission: $10-$16 (includes both the Center and Village)
A visit to the Ohio History Center offers a journey through time with exhibits spanning from the Ice Age to the present. The adjacent Ohio Village is a recreated 19th-century community, complete with characters in period attire.
