9 Must Try Fall Activities in Columbus, Ohio

Columbus is having a moment. Or maybe a series of them? It was recently named one of the best big cities in the United States and tops quite a few lists for food and travel - in our view, that means the city is basically begging you to come soak up the Fall season in style. (And this coming from an avid Michigan fan!) Whether you’re a pumpkin-patch loyalist, a festival hopper, or just looking for fun family events to fill your weekends, we promise Columbus and central Ohio deliver big time this time of year.

Here’s your go-to list of the best things to do this fall in Columbus, Ohio - save it for your weekend planning or travel!

9 Must Try Fall Activities in Columbus, Ohio…

1. Explore the Circleville Pumpkin Show

An Ohio classic, the Circleville Pumpkin Show is one of the biggest fall festivals in the state. Expect giant pumpkins (seriously, record-setting sizes), pumpkin pie you can’t miss, a Miss Pumpkin pageant show, rides, and live entertainment that keeps the festive vibe going all weekend. It’s the perfect time to load up on kettle corn, snag a wagon ride, and people-watch with a cider in hand.

2. Pick Your Own Apples at Lynd Fruit Farm

It’s not Fall without a trip to the orchard. At Lynd Fruit Farm, you can go apple picking, tackle a massive corn maze, try your hand at apple cannons, or just enjoy the crisp air while sipping warm apple cider. With acres of land, wagon rides, and more mazes, it’s basically the definition of fall family fun for the whole family. Grab something from the farm store on your way out!

3. Wander Franklin Park Conservatory’s Harvest Blooms

Step into a world of botanical gardens decked out in the spirit of the season. The Franklin Park Conservatory transforms into what they call "Harvest Blooms" with thousands of pumpkins, mums, and gourds, making it one of the best spots for fall photos (hello IG-worthy pics) in the heart of downtown Columbus. Bonus: Keep your eyes peeled for the annual Pumpkins Aglow Festival too!

4. Spend a Fall Day on the Farm

Daytime dwellers, this one’s for you. It's great having fun with the fam, but we know sometimes you just need a Fall spot for a daytime playdate with your littler ones. Put spots like Lehner’s Pumpkin Farm and Circle S Farms on your radar. Lehner's offers barrel rides and jump pillows, while Circle S has a straw-filled barn and hayrides to enjoy.

5. Catch Live Music in the Short North

The Short North along High Street is always buzzing, but fall weekends bring an extra dose of energy with live music, pop-up art shows, and local vendors filling the sidewalks. If you missed their annual September Hops on High event, definitely peek their website for more fun. Think of this reco as a mini-festival vibe every weekend, perfect for date night or grabbing your girls for a night out.

6. Spend a Day Enjoying the Columbus Zoo’s Fall Events

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium isn’t just a summer trip spot. Each fall, the Zoo hosts special events like their annual Lantern Festival (runs thru early October!) and Boo at the Zoo with giant pumpkin carvings and rides. It’s a fun time for the entire family and a great way to stretch a zoo membership into the cooler months.

7. Road Trip to Leeds Farm

I know we already talked farms, but if you’re making a Fall bucket list, everything tells us Leeds needs its own listing. It’s packed with all the quintessential Fall family fun: Pony rides, hay rides, pedal carts, a hay maze, and even zip lines. Between all the activities, this is one of the best places for Fall fun that really appeals to every age group.

8. Stroll the Scioto Mile for Peak Fall Colors

Sometimes the best outdoor activities are the simplest. The Scioto Mile in downtown Columbus offers miles of trails - plan an outing for mid-October when foliage is at it peak, pack a thermos of cider, and spend the afternoon walking the riverfront. This is one of those low-key fun activities that makes you fall (Fall?) in love with Columbus over and over.

9. Say Hello to Slate Run Metro Park’s Farm Animals

For a low-key day, head to Slate Run Metro Park. The onsite 1880s living farm is a great opportunity for the family to see a working farm (and their animals!) up close, hop on a wagon ride, or wander the trails. We love this option for a slower pace when your weekends are already packed with special activities and festivals, and just need something quieter.
