Penn and Beech :: The perfect girls day {or night!} out

The following is a snapshot into some of the ongoing fun we have at theCityMoms. It’s a recap of a recent MNO with Penn & Beech and meant to not only inspire your own adventures but perhaps entice you to join us on the journey. Read on, reader, then sign up for your own theCityMoms membership.

Have you heard of Penn & Beech? Cuz if you haven’t, you need to: Fairly new, and our first time visiting, it’s like a gorgeous-smelling boutique haven in downtown Indianapolis that you'll fall in love with. As you walk into this just-off-the-Mass-Ave-path you are greeted by a light, bright and airy feel along with a wall full of candles holding over 92 different scents. And its entire premise is built on creating your own custom fragrance.

After partnering with Penn and Beech for our special Mother's Day event at Ironworks, theCityMoms hosted a Mom’s Night Out at their Mass Ave location and were even more blown away by what a great concept it is for a girls night get-together. Upon arrival you are handed a clipboard and directed to their Scent Wall to find your favorites. {Scoop: We were told some guests fill up the 12 blank spaces and some will write in all the extra blank space because they just love so many! Totally understandable and believe when I say, choosing favorites is pretty hard.} Eucalyptus, Good Book, Olive Branch... decisions, decisions.

Then, it's time to determine what you'd like to mix a scent for: Lotion? Candle? Home fragrance spray? Seriously the options are endless.

In front of each of us was a beautiful place setting consisting of a spoon, a jigger, and glass measuring cup. Once you get comfortable, a Penn & Beech employee joins your table to instruct how to create your custom scent. The mixology of blending two, three, maybe four scents together means you really are in charge of your own unique scent. Once you’ve decided on the perfect combo, then it's time to fill the jigger with oil and finalize the pouring process.

The staff is so fun and friendly you almost don’t want to leave. Watching the staff climb up and down the ladders to grab the scents for other creating is almost mesmerizing and the amazing smells surrounding you makes you never want to leave. Once you’ve poured, enjoy a beer or glass of wine from their new in-house offerings. Or if you have selected a candle, keep in mind that it takes 90 minutes to set so maybe hop on over to Mass Ave for dinner while you wait? {Bonus: Livery is right across the street and Peace Water Winery is literally next door.}
