Take the fam! A roundup of holiday light displays in Indianapolis
Last night my crew and I got a sneak peek of the brand new Christmas Nights of Lights holiday light display at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds. As we pulled into the Fairgrounds, I was immediately transported back to my nine year old self: In the back of my mom's tan and rust-colored Chevy Suburban, with heat that sometimes worked {mostly didn't}, my brother strapped in next to me, oogling the incredible outdoor light display at Domino Farms in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The displays felt massive, the lights stretched on for miles, and it was my signal that holidays were around the corner.This led me to realize over our years of living in the Circle City, we've witnessed some equally as impressive holiday light displays in Indianapolis. So throughout the season, we'll be refreshing this post as our CityMoms spot more on their journeys {probably a little heavier on coats and sweaters than this gal below but you get the point...}
For now, here's a starter roundup of our favorite holiday light displays in Indianapolis:
1.Winterlights at Newfields
Runs now-January 1, 2020
Winterlights is now an officially-minted holiday tradition in Central Indiana. Create even more memories this season with friends and family as you stroll through our spectacular Winter Wonderland, sip apple cider or hot chocolate (spiked options are available for adults) and make s’mores over a fire pit. Watch lights dance to music on the Lilly House lawn and stop to take photos at the Snowflake Bridge, Frosted Forest and other illuminated displays throughout the grounds. HOT TIP: The special glasses that transform every one of the 1.5 million lights into a shimmering snowflake? Buy them. They come with special coupons worth the price of the glasses alone. Read more of our past coverage here.
2. Lights at the Brickyard - Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Runs November 27-January 5, 2020
Lights at the Brickyard returns this year with dozens of colorful displays totaling more than three million bright lights illuminating an expanded lineup of colorful displays, on a 2-mile course through the IMS infield and historic oval, including the front stretch and world-famous “Yard of Bricks” start-finish line. We visited last year and will do again this season. Here's our past coverage.
3. Christmas Nights of Lights at the Indiana State Fairgrounds
Runs now-January 1, 2020
Christmas Nights of Lights has arrived to Indianapolis for the holiday season! This family-friendly event features a 2-mile car ride through more than a million LED lights powered by 50,000+ computer channels. Visitors of all ages will be awed by the larger-than-life trees, glowing snowflakes, dancing candy canes and enchanting tunnels of lights. In the warmth of your own vehicle, you can sing along to the sounds of the season’s synchronized to holiday light displays.
4. Downtown Indy's Circle of Lights
Runs November 29-January 11, 2020
For years, spectators have gathered Downtown at Monument Circle to see the most spectacular holiday display illuminate. Downtown's beloved holiday tradition features 4,784 lights and 52 garland strands, used to create the 242-foot display. The magic continues with toy soldiers and peppermint sticks encircling the Monument and many more lights to enjoy. This year's display features 26 giant toy soldiers and sailors and 26 peppermint sticks surrounding the Circle, as well as 56,700 twinkle lights in the trees illuminating the area's walkways. This is a downtown don't miss.
5. Merry Prairie Holiday Reynolds Light Display at Conner Prairie
Runs November 29-December 29, 2020
Enjoy the Conner Prairie holiday family fun you already love and a host of new features you won’t want to miss. All under the shimmering backdrop of a local, time-honored favorite moving to a new home at Conner Prairie: the Reynolds Farm Equipment Christmas Lights. While final setup is still underway for this brand new holiday tradition we do know two things: {1} Conner Prairie has never put on an experience we didn't wholeheartedly love, and {2} having this backdrop as the new Reynolds Light Display anchors our interests once Thanksgiving wraps. We. Are. Here. For. This.
