'Twas the night before going back to school...

Even though back to school has come and gone, CityMom Abby was experiencing it AGAIN this week with the return from Winter Break. So we had to laugh along as she sent in her 'ode to going back to school' in 'Twas the night before Christmas-style. Read on, reader:

‘Twas the night before going back to school at our house,

EVERY creature was stirring, even the dog for the dollhouse!

The clothes had been laid to wear the next day,

With denial that the school bus would again come their way.

Both my children were running and screaming and crying,

“I don’t want to go to bed or to school, it’s just so dissatisfying.”

Wearing my mismatched pajamas and dad asleep in the chair,

It was me screaming at the kids, oh I wish he could see my glare.

I thought we had made it, both kids laying in their beds.

Hoping for visions of great recess games in their heads.

When 11pm came, there were more tears than before,

I sprang from my bed to find those kids at my door.

“I know, I know, I’m the worst and so cruel,

But you know you will be so tired tomorrow at school.”

“I’m not tired momma and I can’t go to sleep.

Please let me stay up, I’ll even help sweep.”

“School will be great and you will see all your friends.

And before you know it, your first day back will come to an end.”

Now Ella, Now Olive, You lay down right now!

Find your pillow, and lovey before I freaking have a cow!

Alexa, play lullabies and send them to sleep.

I swear you two better not make another peep!

I tucked the girls in for the 700th time,

And walked to the loft to enjoy some downtime.

I threw some laundry in the washer and picked up the toys,

And enjoyed a few more moments of minimal noise.

I decided my chores has been completed for the night,

And strolled to my bed, no children in sight!

When I looked at the clock, No way that was true.

Was it really and honestly ten to two?!?
