Wear Your Clothes: A blogger’s quick style guide

As a stylist and blogger, it’s pretty much my job to find inspirational looks for clients. From fabric to cut and everything in between, I live and breathe STYLE. For me - it’s better than chocolate… like, it really is. Since we are fast-approaching the Holiday season, I thought it would be a great time to throw out a couple style how-tos. In this guide, we will be working with the motto Wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you. Not sure what I mean by that? Read on:

THE FIT

... Is everything. You have to wear the right fit. An ill-fitting garment is a cardinal sin, babe. So don’t be a style sinner. This is the easiest way to determine whether or not you are wearing your clothes, or if they’ve gotten a hold of you. Baggy, misshaped clothing can make you look frumpy and not pulled together. Identify your body shape first, and look for items that fit that shape. For instance, I’m an apple-shaped {carrying most of my weight in my stomach area} woman, so I love items that show off my smaller legs, and have a smaller waist. This gives me the illusion of an hourglass shape.

Pro Stylist Tip: Find a great Tailor! If you lose {or gain} a little weight, or need adjustments to fit your body type, a Tailor is the answer. I’ve had several jackets that needed taken in at the waist…again, defining my shape. I wear my clothes, not the other way around!

THE COLOR

So important! Find colors that brighten up your face, and highlight your skin tone. Stay away from tones that drown you out. Again, it’s important to understand YOU. DO you have cool undertones in your skin, or warm ones? IS your skin more olive or red?

Pro Stylist Tip: A quick trip to Sephora will answer that last question. They have a little doodad that tells you if you have warm or cool skin tones. SCORE! Anyhoo, complimentary colors command attention, and you’ll feel good knowing you rocked that look. Command those colors babe!

THE PRICE

This one makes me giggle. We’ve all seen it- the woman who wears every expensive trend out there. Now, I love a label just as much as the next girl, but I have limits. My rule if it’s expensive- how many wears will I get out of this? I break that price all the way down per use. Not only does this keep me in check when shopping, my wallet thanks me. Challenge yourself when purchasing that $1,000 handbag to make sure you are getting great wear out of it, and buying it for the right reasons.

Pro Stylist Tip: Wanting to follow the trends or dress trendy doesn’t mean breaking the bank. Many stores have on-trend knock offs for a fraction of the price. Hopefully this helps when you go shopping for all your extravagant parties this Holiday season. Have a great November loves! Oh! Want me to cover a specific topic? Let me know in the comments! I’m happy to oblige! Xoxo- Sierra
