Look, when the pandemic began, I was a cleaning machine. Maybe it was the influx of germ-killing cleaners on the market, and maybe it was my own neurosis of finding things to do in quarantine, but each room was scoured, organized and catalogued. And I don't know about you but my bedroom also slowly transformed into Grand Central Station in quarantine - an office, an entertainment room for the kids, reading lounge, etc. So this season I'm focusing extra time on doing a Spring Clean of the bedroom and thought I'd share my tips with you!

My Spring clean bedroom routine:

1. Swap the sheets

Now's the perfect time to ditch the flannel sheets in favor of a lighter material like cotton. After you pull the Spring sheets down from the shelf, run them thru the wash with your favorite fabric softener for a fresh scent, and wash/store your flannels 'til Fall.I was just turned on to the California Design Den 400 ct sheet set* - their soft material makes me feel like I'm staying over at a fancy hotel.

BONUS: Boost your sheets with the new Downy Intense* fabric softener in Spring Rush (a 2021 Product of the Year winner in the liquid fabric softener category!) the smell gently carries thru the entire house in a bright, seasonal way.

2. Wipe down the walls

Dunno about you but with kids at home, my walls are forever covered in handprints of food, paint, or just general grime. And the light of Spring always seems to illuminate the spots and stains more! Make wiping down your walls with a lightly-damp cloth a part of your seasonal cleaning. For truly tough spots, I always grab the Mr. Clean Eraser*:

3. Declutter

Sure, probably goes without saying to declutter but it's a good time to look at things with fresh eyes. Do you really need that stack of vintage Domino magazines? Pile of pandemic book finds? Quarantine plants? Spend some intentional time purging your room so you can wake every morning feeling calm, not cluttered.

4. Dust it down

Remove all books or knick-knacks from bookshelves, dressers, and nightstands and thoroughly dust the surfaces. Run a rag along the top of your headboard and along windowsills {which hello, are total dust magnets!}.

5. Invest in an air purifier

Raise your hand if you love sleeping with the windows open! Spring is the perfect time to let some fresh, outdoor air into the house. But we also recommend investing in a quality air purifier to clean + capture airborne irritants all year long - DYK there are 8 airborne irritants in most home environments? The Lasko LP200 HEPA Filter Air Purifier* is one of our faves:

6. Switch out your pillows

I know, I know: You invested in a Casper pillow last year and are loving it. But DYK pillows have an expiration date? Replacements are recommended every 6-12 months for synthetic fill, and 2-3 years for goose down.

7. Move it around

If you've been thinking about a bedroom refresh - a new layout with your existing furniture - now's the perfect time to try it out. Pro tip: Save yourself the hassle and draw up a schematic before you invest the muscle. But consider things like: Does my bed now face an eastern window where morning light will come in? Am I sharing a wall with the entertainment room where someone could be up late watching a movie and disturbing my sleep?

8. Mix up the decor

While you're at it with the room reorg, take a moment to also move out any wintery-themed items and swap them with some Spring. Store anything in flannel, velvet, dark-colored decor, or off-season 'Merry Holidays' pieces, and switch them for springy, pastel, floral, or other lighter-themed decor.

9. Flip the mattress

Unless you have a pillowtop, the age-old 'flip your mattress each season for best wear' still holds true. Find a friend or enlist the kids to help flip yours, but make sure to take time and vacuum out crevices or between the box spring to clear unnecessary trash or dust that may have piled up.

10. Tackle the closet

I said what I said. This spot - at least for me! - becomes a clearinghouse for clutter all year long, and before I know it, my sweaters have books piled on them with purses on those with a wayward suitcase or tote bag and it's a mess. Block off at least an hour for your closet clean and create piles of to keep, and to go. Haven't worn clothes in over a year? It's a good time to shift them to the donate pile. Have extra closet space elsewhere in the house? Move winter items there and keep just your Spring/Summer wardrobe close by.
