Here is what to do before your boudoir shoot:

Three weeks prior…

  • Pick out a few sexy outfits that you feel good in—boudoir doesn’t always mean lingerie! The most important thing is you feel comfortable in your own skin.

Inspo: fave oversized t-shirt, partner’s button-down shirt, lace slip dress, lingerie that makes you feel like a rock star, oversized blazer with not much else underneath (insert winky face), and don’t forget about accessories!

  • Props are allowed! Think high heels, cowgirl boots, handcuffs, or even whips. It’s all at your comfort level.

  • Trying your outfits before your session is always a good idea. And if you’re planning on purchasing new items make sure to give yourself plenty of time to order. If you can’t decide, bring extra outfits and your photographer will help you pull the looks together.

One week prior…

  • Stretch every morning in the week leading up to your session.

  • Not necessary, but boudoir sessions are a great excuse for getting your nails done! Treat yourself, mama!

  • If you get a spray tan, make sure to give yourself two to three days plus a shower to get some of the orange-like coloring off.

  • If you’re getting your eyebrows done, make sure you do them a few days prior so they aren’t red and puffy.

  • Drink plenty of water!

Day of your shoot…

  • Have a light meal to avoid bloating during your session. Keep in mind what you’re eating—if it’s going to stain your mouth or teeth for a few hours then you’ll want to skip it.

  • Wear loose clothing to your shoot. You don’t want to have weird bra or jean impressions showing up on your skin.

  • If you’re getting your hair and makeup professionally done, you’ll want to arrive with a bare face and clean, dry hair. Most photographers include hair and makeup in their boudoir packages or have makeup artists and hair stylists they’ve worked with before that they can recommend.

  • Do not put a ponytail holder on your wrist that morning to avoid lines on your wrist. While we’re at it, if you have a watch impression, try putting some foundation over it to blend it with your skin tone.

  • If you see photos you’d like to try, make sure to save and share them with your photographer.
