As a daredevil kid I used to climb the highest trees, ride my bike down our steep front hill and swing as high as possible on our playset. My mom would serenade me at night with this sweet song:
 She flies through the airWith the greatest of ease                 That daring young girl                       And her flying trapeze.
So when one of our CityMoms {Mary was it you? Cindy, maybe you?} mentioned Cirque Indy - Indianapolis' one and only circus school specializing in aerial circus arts - had opened, I was thrilled to discover I wasn't alone in my love for trying fun, new daredevil things.
We scheduled the event as a Moms Night Out and in the span of about 14 seconds, it filled up. The wait list was teeming with comments like HOW DID I MISS THIS?Seriously if anyone needs to cancel, I'll take your spot and can we schedule a second day to go? So like true explorers, we sent in a search party to check things first. And it went like this:We arrived to our instructor - studio owner Mary, who from this point forward will be known just as Flying Wallenda - literally dropping from the ceiling bound by only a silk rope. Wow.

Was she showing off? Possibly. All of us stood around nervously smiling. But secretly behind those smiles were thoughts of: Should I have updated my will? Did I miss the part in the waiver requiring Herculean-strength?

"We need to warm up ladies!" called out Flying Wallenda {real name: Mary}. So she instructed us in a number of neck, arm and leg stretches.

 "Unlike other workouts that require weights, machinery or heavy equipment, this Aerial Silks class requires only 2 things: your own physical strength and these silk ropes," said FW. "They may look daunting but we will be teaching you some basic moves and some not-so-basic ones. This class is an ongoing series so you'll learn the fundamentals tonight that you could build on in further sessions."
First we learned the elements of arm wrapping, a specialized technique that protects your joints from harm during Aerial Silks training. See how many times the ropes are pulled around Anna's {in blue} forearms?

 Then FW taught us how to transition from this general wrap into an actual 'move'. A leg tuck. Sylvia is making it look so easy below with that bright smile on her face but believe me… this is an ab killer.

 From there, basic leg wraps. These are a bit tougher to conquer with a twist of your leg one way and a step into the rope knot another. Former ice skater Abby though mastered it in a heartbeat.

 And Stacy got in on the fun.

 Eileen too.

 Then it was time to put the both of them together: An arm wrap AND a leg pose WHILST spinning? That was a toughie. But Jennifer pulled it off. {Spotted: Cirque Indy helper Beth watching over us in the background!}

 After that, FW decided to turn the class on its head… literally. Luckily this was a move all of us were able to figure quickly and before long, giggles were echoing throughout the studio with youthful shouts of LOOK AT ME! {That's me there in the blue - don't I look so darn graceful?}

 Sam decided to big bad show off a little at the end of class. It's also one of the reasons we love her so much.

In all, our class with Cirque Indy was an absolute blast and made for a great Moms Night Out. It will definitely be on our Repeat List of Fun.
