5 Small Changes That Make Busy Mornings Easier

Saw us talking busy mornings on TV? Forget the perfect routine. Try one—or all five—of these small changes to make getting everyone out the door a little easier.

1. Do One Favor for “Tomorrow Me”

Before bed, solve one thing that could annoy you tomorrow morning. Fill the water bottles. Sign the form. Prep the coffee. Put your keys on top of the thing you absolutely cannot forget.

2. Create a “No-Ask” Breakfast

Pick 2–3 default weekday breakfasts everyone knows they can grab. Keep them together in one fridge or pantry zone—and always have one emergency grab-and-go option.

Fewer choices = fewer questions.

3. Give Everyone a Launch Zone

One person. One spot. Keep backpacks, shoes, coats + sports gear together by the door so no one is hunting through the house at 7:45 a.m.

The trick: organize by person, not by item.

4. Add a “Don’t Forget” Basket

Library books. Returns. Permission slips. Cleats. Anything that needs to leave the house tomorrow goes in one basket by the door as you think of it.

5. Create a Morning-Only Play Station

Have little ones underfoot? Set aside something they can play with independently—and only bring it out during the morning rush so it stays special.

Our pick: The new line from Hopscotch Lane, an imaginative little world they can play with while everyone else gets ready.
