AquaTots is Coming to Indianapolis…

And here’s why you’ll love them!

You know that feeling when you meet someone and just click? That’s how I felt walking into AquaTots – or rather the building that will soon be home to the newest swim school facility in greater Indianapolis.

Right as I opened the door, two bright, smiling faces greeted me. They said hello. They were juggling a toddler on one hip and a sleeping baby in a stroller, but didn’t miss a beat in welcoming me to what will soon house a large, 4.5-foot deep, all-inclusive swim school ‘experience.’

Those smiling faces were owners Jake and Lindsay Thayer and I immediately liked them. How could you not? Their passion for the AquaTots program and their ability to relate to their customers as parents was infectious. They took me through the building – starting to enter the final stages of construction – and pointed out everything that makes the AquaTots experience exciting:

  • A grand wait room for families with red leather chairs.
  • iPad kiosks for quick check-in and convenience.
  • A facility built for traffic flow – no clustering at the front desk until your lesson time and shuffling in a group to overtake the room of other swimmers.
  • A large play area to entertain littles ones while siblings swim.
  • Spacious changing rooms.
  • Weekly AquaCards for parents that note their child’s progress.
  • Lessons for ages 4 months and up.
  • Super flexible schedules: morning, afternoon, evening and weekends available.
  • A free makeup policy because sometimes things just happen to make families miss a lesson.
  • “The fastest wifi service so parents can get work done,” says Jake.
  • And my favorite: A kiddie ‘car wash’ with multiple rain showerheads that swimmers will walk thru and rinse off in after exiting the pool.

“It’s crucial to us that we create a sense of community at AquaTots so families aren’t feeling rushed. We found with our Lexington location that families will come and actually hang out.” Jake added as we walked around. “This is family for us and it’s about family.”

He went on to note that their initial call with the AquaTots HQ in Arizona was put directly through to the president who talked with he and Lindsay for over and hour just about their respective families. That call made the husband and wife duo fall in love with the AquaTots culture.

So why build at 96th and Gray Roads? Believe it or not, that part of town is void many swim lesson options. Sure there’s a couple YMCAs and other swim schools but they’re still a good 20 minutes away and as all parents know, time is money and convenience is key.

The Thayer family – including their two girls Lilly and June – will be living in Indianapolis throughout the first few months of the launch and then will return to Lexington to their original AquaTots franchise location. Until the pull becomes too great and they begin eyeing new markets for AquaTots that is. After all, they own the rights for expansion into Cincinnati and Louisville as well, and yes, the family will travel together. As Jake said: AquaTots is all about family. And this family is going places.
